Job Description

In a supportive educational environment, professionals are sought to provide specialized orientation and mobility services to an 11th-grade student. This role focuses on delivering tailored assistance to enhance the student's independence and access to the curriculum, addressing specific visual impairments and their impacts.

Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience working with students with visual impairments, particularly those with complex needs
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to develop and implement individualized mobility plans
• Knowledge of assistive technology and resources for vision impairment

Location:

• Oakland, CA

Responsibilities:

• Provide 150 minutes per month of in-person orientation and mobility services
• Assess and analyze the student's needs to establish mobility goals
• Teach safe navigation techniques at intersections and across streets
• Demonstrate proper cane techniques, particularly on stairs
• Assist the student in using technology and apps for route planning
• Monitor and document progress towards established mobility goals
